Hiking near Kodiak, Alaska
Want to do something different after you fill your coolers, or do you just want to give your aching arms a days rest? A half day or full day hike through the territory of the Kodiak bear just might be the answer. On the half day hike, a guide will lead you from the lodge to the 1,760 foot high summit of the mountain immediately northwest of the lodge. This hike is fairly easy, and is great one for the kids. For the more energetic who opt for the full day hike, you can climb to the highest point on Raspberry Island, 2,400 foot high. On this hike, lunch will be served as you look for deer, elk, and bears in the valley below. From the summit, you will be able to see across Raspberry Straight to Afognak Island in the north, Whale Island and Afognak Straight to the southwest, and Kupreanof Straight and Kodiak Island to the south. On a clear day, you may even see the snow covered peaks of Katmai across Shelikof Straight to the west.
